Fetske Hogen Esch: "Our logo and our name, that's a story in itself."
"In late 2006, I was in Christchurch, New Zealand. I was giving a presentation on chronic pelvic pain at the annual conference of the International Continence Society. My fellow pioneer in pelvic physical therapy, Marijke Slieker, gave me a picture of a figurine for that presentation. She told me that this figurine made her think of my pain patients and of me.
I thought this was so sweet of her and also felt a connection with that image. Because the image has no belly. There is no connection between the upper body and the lower body. Many patients also experience it that way. They feel the pain in their lower abdomen and that pain causes restlessness. The pain and the search for cause and treatment sometimes also makes them tired and desperate: the hand under the head offers support. This image inspired us and our designer Maartje Durge to create the logo.
Very much I wanted and want to be there for these people with (pain) in the abdomen, lower back and around the pelvis. People in whom perhaps no cause for the complaints has been found.
Again, we look for those causes. And even if we don't find a cause, we can help reduce the symptoms. For example, by teaching people how to relax the muscles in their abdomen.
Because many people from abroad also come to us, we chose the name F-act. That's pronounced "effect. And that is what we stand for. Our complete name is: F-act Pelvic Pain Clinic. We are the Center of Expertise for Chronic Pelvic and Pelvic Floor Pain. In addition to this clinic, we have a practice for pelvic physiotherapy, Pelvic Physiotherapy Hogen Esch (bfhe.nl)."
