For 30 years we have specialized in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain and complaints. We have treated a lot of people. We listened to their experiences and their pain symptoms. A lot of people told us that they are tired of the pain and that the persistent symptoms sometimes make them desperate. It is often quite a puzzle to find the causes of those complaints. Then, for example, it has already been investigated whether there is something wrong with the bladder, prostate or uterus. If a doctor finds no problem there, the treatment is often already done. We look further; we look at how the organs, muscles, nerves, joints, and other structures in the pelvis interact.
To know the cause of your symptoms, we will ask you questions: what pain is involved, how it arose, where do you feel the pain, what other symptoms do you have, what has already been examined and treated, and so on. Your personal circumstances or events in your environment are also very important. We listen to your story and to your experiences. Then we do a physical examination. For example, we feel the tension in your muscles and we look at your posture and the way you move.
Based on all the data, we make a diagnosis. Together with you, we then draw up an appropriate treatment plan.
We can do this for you:
- Listening carefully to your story.
- Examining everything related to your symptoms.
- Diagnose.
- Explain to you (in most cases) how the symptoms arose.
- If necessary, we will refer you to other health care providers for additional testing or treatment.
The above comes together in the Diagnostic Consultation. You will then spend three to four hours with us. Read more about it here
As part of the Diagnostic Consultation, we will establish with you a treatment plan . Treatment consists of one or more of the options listed here. For these treatments, you can come to us. If you live further away, the F-active All-in-One Program or the F-active Immersion Clinic may be of interest to you. We can also refer you to a practitioner in your area.
Good to know: we will teach you exercises so that you can practice on your own at home. These exercises are an important part of treatment.
And: we collaborate with doctors and other health care providers; we have a large (inter)national network.

Diagnostic consultation: listening, asking, examining
Chronic pelvic pain is different for everyone. If you choose us, you will receive a questionnaire from us. You fill it out at home and return it to us. Have you already seen a doctor or practitioner? We ask that you request a copy of your records and send it to us.
We will review your completed questionnaire and your medical records before your appointment. If our conclusion is that you have not come to the right place, we will refer you. If we expect to be able to help you, we will first have an intake interview. Based on your medical file and your completed questionnaire we will discuss your complaints. This can be done by phone, through an online consultation or at our clinic. We also talk to you about your home situation, your work or hobbies. We may also ask about your childhood: perhaps you also had problems with urination or bowel movements at that time? Was there a stressful situation? If, after the intake, it appears that you can be better served elsewhere, we will refer you on, with the summary of the interview.
In many cases, this is followed by a physical examination at our clinic. When you are with us, we take the time with two specialized practitioners to further assess your symptoms with you. Here, a comprehensive physical examination determines whether, for example, your muscles, joints or nerves are causing problems. If it is necessary and you agree, we can still contact your doctor.
Ultrasound
During the examination, we often use ultrasound. You may be familiar with this from the pregnancy ultrasound. With this device, we can show you how your muscles work. You can then see the difference when your muscles are tensed and when they are relaxed. You can also see what happens to organs such as the bladder and rectum when muscles are tightened or relaxed. With ultrasound, we can look at the muscles in the pelvic floor, as well as the abdominal and back muscles, or the diaphragm.
MAPLe
We use an ultrasound and sometimes we use the MAPLe; this device goes one step further than the ultrasound. The MAPLe gives us more details. For example, whether muscles on the left and right are different, whether tension is present in the front or back, superficial or deep.
We can use the MAPLe in the physical examination. We also use the device in treatment; it can help return muscle function to normal. The device can also deliver small amounts of electricity in a very targeted way. This helps with pain relief or targeted muscle activation.
Good to know: a personal measuring part (probe) is required to use the MAPLe. This is used internally. This probe is available from us for 65.00 euros. The price of this is not yet included in the diagnostic consultation. If you already have a probe, please bring it with you for the examination. This can also be another probe.
The scientific rationale for the MAPLe can be found here.
Treatment Plan
In all, this comprehensive examination takes three to four hours. Afterwards, we will make a treatment plan with you. Treatment may be with us, or we may refer you to another specialist. You yourself will also have an active role in the treatment.
Within a week of your visit to our clinic, you will receive a report from us. You can then indicate to which of your doctors or practitioners, if any, we can send the report.
Which treatment do you want?
Your active role in the treatment of your symptoms begins with your choice of treatment. Treatment can take place in our clinic, or it can take place with the doctor or practitioner you were with previously. Good to know: we cooperate with many doctors, pelvic physiotherapists and psychologists. We can refer you to them.
In many cases, we personally contact the practitioner to whom we refer you to explain the treatment plan. We remain present in the background and will help further if treatment stagnates. If you have any questions, please call us.
Possible treatments
As part of the Diagnostic Consult ation, we will discuss the treatment plan with you. In the treatment you can do a lot yourself. We will teach you what you can do and how.
All possible treatments can be found here.

Integrated treatment at the F-act Pelvic Pain Clinic
After the diagnostic consultation, you can join us for treatment at the F-act Pelvic Pain Clinic. We provide customized treatment and an individual treatment costs 150 euros per hour. A package of four treatments costs 500 euros, for six treatments it is 750 euros.
F-active All-in-one Program.
We developed this program for patients who come to us from abroad. But many Dutch patients also like this compact program.
It is effective to have the diagnostic consultation followed by individual treatment in our clinic. We treat you, explain your complaint, and we instruct you on how to treat the symptoms yourself. You will learn exercises from us that you can properly and safely do yourself at home.
With patients who have to travel far, we schedule this program on three consecutive days. With patients who do not have to travel as far, we schedule more widely. You may first come for a few hours to learn what you can do on your own. Then you will start working on your own. After a few weeks, we discuss how things are going. If necessary, we can adjust your program.
The F-active All-in-one Program is spread over three days:
Day 1: Diagnostic consultation (4 hours).
Day 2: 4 hours of individual treatment and instruction to treat your symptoms yourself.
Day 3: 2 hours of individual treatment and instruction to treat your symptoms yourself.
The cost for this total package is 1650 euros.

We treat you, explain your complaint and instruct you on how to treat the symptoms yourself. You will learn exercises from us that you can do at home yourself in a good and safe way.
In group therapy, the emphasis is on explanation, lifestyle advice, learning the routine for the self-help program and exchanging experiences. Because the groups are very small (four people), there is plenty of space and attention for everyone.
